Planet Of The Apes (1968) Gorilla Horse Solider Head
The work of Special Make-Up Effects legend John Chambers along with other amazing craftsmen like Master Prop Maker Zoyd Luce, helped to create the truly bizarre never-before-seen world populated in the original “Planet Of The Apes” (1968). This is one of the original hero screen used full size Gorilla Horse Solider Heads used in the production and created by Chambers and Luce. Zoyd Luce created the foam rubber full head, and Chambers then painstakingly applied the extremely realistic hand-laid hair. It was originally part of a full Gorilla Horse Solider extremely realistic dummy which was used in several sequences where Gorilla Soldiers were thrown over a wall, a beach cliff and other obstacles. This beautifully crafted head is quite rare, since virtually all the ape characters were actors that had elaborate prosthetics applied to their face, so only a very few full-size stunt dummies were ever created. This magnificently preserved dramatic head comes from Zoyd Luce’s personal collection and includes a Letter of Provenience from his son. Full size natural head measures approx. 18Xx11"x11".
