Plains Tipi Bag,
probably Lakota Sioux, late 19th-century. Sinew-sewn, with three lanes of translucent red beads with a white core, white, green, yellow and deep blue beads forming three decorative elements, each element with four drops of tin cones and red-dyed horse hair. The main panel fully beaded, with triangular elements of green, and translucent yellow and red beads, each with a red core, the elements bordered in deep blue, and set against a white background and divided into equal parts by a lane of deep green beads. The sides of the bag are decorated by five lanes of rectangular and cross-shaped elements of green, blue, white and translucent red and yellow beads, each with a red core, with tin cones and red-dyed horse hair; 18" wide x 12.5" tall. Deaccessioned from the Western Reserve Historical Society of Cleveland, Ohio. Leather somewhat stiff, beadwork quite dirty. Two tin cones detached, but present.
