The lot features a Ram’s head effigy carved stone head war club from the Plains Native American Indians and the early Indian Reservation era. The piece shows a wood haft handle which is covered in an old trade canvas and secured to a stone war club head with a wrap of parfleche rawhide. The haft is covered in a linear glass trade seed beaded pattern and shows heavy old trade clothe shroud wool drops of yellow, red, orange, and a blue gripping area. The fringe near the head shows drop of porcupine quillwork having a red, white and blue coloring. The stone head shows a light grey coloring with pointed end on one side and Rocky Mountain Ram’s head on the other. The piece dates to circa early 1900 from the Indian Reservation tourist trade with similar example being offered from the Sioux and Blackfoot tribes. Provenance: From a large Iowa American Indian and Western Cowboy collection. Measures overall 22”L with the head being 7.5”L by 2.25”W by 3”D.
