A pair of Plains Indian-made beaded skin moccasins, each with swastika on the vamp and triangle designs in red and transparent beads, trimmed with black beads. Trimmed on edges with navy blue cotton velvet, black ties on heels. The cuff also has the swastika design, and triangles. These were made for Americans, large foot size, probably for some event.

Signs from nature were always regarded among all tribes, and were more general and survival-based than regionalized, often more esoteric, symbols,; broken branches, flattened leaves, one a strand of hair caught on a branch revealed the recent presence of someone, while sudden winds and a certain change in the angle of light meant the weather would bring rain. Fate-oriented signs were also important; owl and magpie sightings were believed to precede ill fate, and the swastika-like symbol, made by the whirling motion of a log or branch caught in the currents of a river, was considered good luck. The swastika (also known as the gammadion cross or cross cramponnée) is a symbol that generally takes the form of an equilateral cross, with its four legs bent at 90 degrees (as a Chinese character: 卐 or 卍). It is considered to be a very sacred and auspicious symbol.
