The lot features an interesting Plains Native American Indian trade bead and coin necklace dating to the 19th Century. The necklace has been preserved and re strung. The necklace shows original wound glass padre white beads from the 19th Century along with four hairpipe bone beads, two solid brass trade beads, two later added turkey feathers and the copper coin. The copper coin is an original British pre-decimal penny coin, which is a Queen Victoria penny as identified by the markings on the coin "...DEI GRA BRITT REGINA...". The rear of the coin is hand stamped "1863", which is thought to have been added much later during the 20th Century. The coin would have shown a portrait of Queen Victoria and read, "VICTORIA DEI GRA BRITT REGINA FID DEF IND IMP" along the front and "ONE PENNY (with the date)" on the rear. The necklace is strung on sinew and shows a set of turkey feathers, which are also a later 20th Century addition to the piece. Measures overall 23.5"L from the top of the neck to the bottom of the feather. The necklace is 32"L in total inside circumference.
