The excellent piece features a very fine and important rare Plains Native American Indian Beaver Tail Rasp Knife from circa 1800-1860. The rare piece is made from a Blacksmith large rasp file that would have been traded to the original Plains Indian Warrior. The piece also has a carved wood handle with copper accented rivets. The blade shows the rasp teeth polished down giving the appearance of scales or more commonly explained, the texture and shape of a beaver’s tail. This style of dag (dagger or knife) is given the "beaver back" name due to the similarity in the blade shape to the beaver tail. The piece is from a private collection in France and is one of the finest Dag Knives on the market. Measures overall 12”L x 2 3/8”W with a 6.5”L blade that is 2”W. Authentic piece.
