Plains Child's Beaded Vest,
Lakota Sioux, late 19th-century. A fine buckskin vest, constructed of four panels, joined with black cotton thread, the bottom trimmed with faded blue wool tape. Fully beaded, with sinew-sewn decoration of two upside down American flags in red, white and blue, with two false "pockets" of blue, greasy yellow, green, white and red "white heart" seed beads, with the neck edge trimmed in triangles of green beads, the arm holes in blue, and the chest and bottom in a line and triangles of blue, all against a white ground. The rear beaded with six crosses of yellow, blue, and red "white heart" seed beads, and two strips of attached triangles of green, yellow and blue beads separated by a line of red "white heart" and dark blue; circa 10.5" x 10.5." Fraying of cloth taping, beads dirty, with very minor loss at inside collar.
