This is an exceptional example of an original authentic Beaver Tail or Beaver Back Dag Knife from the Plains Native American Indians. The piece dates to the early to mid 19th century and is attributed to manufacturer Jukes Coulson & Co. The knife is not marked, but shows the correct craftsmanship and styling to be by the London Arms company, Jukes Coulson & Co. Provenance: From the extensive Native American & Tribal Arts collection of Harada Fumihiko and Alin Avila. It was purchased from the 6/6/2014 Binoche Auction (represented as such). The immensely unique knife shows the typical wide tapering rounded dagger-shaped blade with double edge with an incredible Steer/Cow horn grips having silver spot inlay framing the edge, a silver Steer head, accent, and fleur de lis along both sides. One of the finest examples of an early period dag knife available for sale. Overall length 13.5”L x 2.5”W and ½” to 9/16” thick. Silver has been modernly polished. Excellent original early piece.
