(Disneyland, 1967) Iconic E-Ticket sign from the original entrance of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction in New Orleans Square. One of only two produced to flank the entrance, it was created by the Disneyland Sign & Pictorial Department. Constructed with high-quality materials it consists of a mounting frame with metal bolt hardware surrounding the delicate glass sign. The glass is “glue-chipped” with reverse silkscreened paint and silver gilding. This technique dates from the 19th Century and was used in several locations within Disneyland, but mostly in New Orleans Square and Main Street (*see other examples in this collection). To this day, there are two surviving signs in New Orleans Square done at the same time in the mid-1960s, using the same technique. One at the entrance of Club 33 and the other hanging above the entrance to the ‘Crystal D’Orleans’ shop. Both stunning examples of the sign-makers art. This sign notified guests of the ticket denomination required for entrance as found on all attractions in the ticket book era. It remained in position for many years, from 1967 to 1984, when the ticket system was dropped in favor of the universal Disneyland Passport. There is perhaps no item more representative of vintage Disneyland than the iconic, E-Ticket. Acquired directly from a 20+ year ex-supervisor of the Disneyland Sign & Pictorial Department. It gets no more rare than this fabulous item! In fine condition. Special shipping arrangements will apply.
