Pinto,NV - Eureka County - April 17, 1878 - Rescue Mining Company Stock :
Silverado District .Incorporated in New York in 1877. Cert. #363. Issued to P.W. French in 1878 for 200 shares. Signed by T.M. Tottern, president and L.L. Lockwoods, secretary. Black on crème, embossed seal, black border. Vignette of miners working two tunnels underground. Location of works, Silverado, Nevada printed on the bottom. The Silverado district was formed in 1869 in Eureka County after silver discoveries were made in 1865. In 1870, the mining camp of Pinto emerged there. In 1872, an English company built a mill and subsequently opened up mines in the area. The company’s ground held no valuable deposits, and the company shut down in 1874 (Paher). Intermittent activity continued in the district until 1884. The Rescue Mining Company was likely not successful and there is no record of production in Burchard. 11 ¼” x 6 ¾”. Some extra fold lines, otherwise fine.
