The movie is directed by Hamilton Luske and Ben Sharpsteen from a story by Carlo Collodi and story board by Ted Sears. It was released on February 23, 1940 by Walt Disney Productions and runs for 88 minutes. Mel Blanc is the voice of Gideon, Cliff Edwards is the voice of Jiminy Cricket, Dickie Jones is the voice of Pinocchio, Charles Judels is the voice of Stromboli, Christian Rub is the voice of Geppetto and Evelyn Venable is the voice of the Blue Fairy. In 1941 it won an Oscar for Best Music, Original Score and Best Music, Original Song for “When You Wish Upon A Star” by Leigh Harline and Ned Washington. The theme song from Pinocchio, "When You Wish upon a Star," was ranked #7 in the 2004 American Film Institute's List of the Top Movie Songs of All Time, the highest-ranking song on the list among Disney animated films. This was the first Disney feature available on DVD. During the musical number "When You Wish upon a Star," when a spotlight is seen on Jiminy Cricket, one is able to see two books to the left of the screen, which are "Peter Pan" and "Alice in Wonderland." Walt Disney would create these stories for the big screen in 1953 and 1950, respectively.
