Pinkas&#34; just 12 days after Israel became a state, one page on General Council &#40;Vaad Leumi&#41; of the Jewish Community of Palestine letterhead, 8½&#34; x 7&#34;, 26 May 1948. To Dr. A.Z. Eshkoly, in part: &#34;…<I>I want first to express my feelings of hope and prayer for the fast release of Jerusalem, and wish you and your family all the best and that God will save you from any harm. Because of the emergency time, the city hall postponed the appointing of municipal library manager….I hope we can discuss it again at a quieter time</I>….&#34; Jerusalem was under siege by forces from Transjordan and local Palestinian militias from November 9, 1947 to July 18, 1948.
