This unusual and rare powder jar was produced, in pink satin Depression glass, for or by Dermay of 5th Ave, circa 1930. Shown and described on pages 54-55 of Whitmyer - Bedroom & Bathroom Glassware of the Depression Years, this jar still has the original 'Dermay' label and is embossed on the bottom 'DESIGN PAT No 79009. Originally contained make-up or bath powder but when empty was used for cards and the top as an ashtray - quite versatile. Painted underneath the lid and embossed on four of the sides with a Heart - Diamond - Spade - Club. Measuring 2 1/4" tall x 5 1/2" long x 3 1/2" deep. Other than a little roughness on two of cigarette rests and a nick under the rim of the base, both jar and lid are in excellent condition.
