constructed of two pieces of black and purple silk brocade with an added stripe of blue silk taping. Both pieces glued to heavy cardboard, into which straight pins are inserted, 2" total diameter. Together with an older typed note detailing its provenance, and identifying the pincushion as the property of Andrew Jackson Hooper, brother of Mary A. Hooper, and parents of the wife of William Hammersley. Together with an obituary of Hammersley, a Denver antiquarian, discussing his collections.

Andrew Jackson Hooper mustered into the 71st Pennsylvania May 21, 1861. Exactly five months later, he was killed in action at Ball's Bluff, Virginia. A fine personal relic.
