c1920-1940 - Round Pima bowl of willow and devil’s claw, measuring 7.5” diameter at base, 4.25” h., and 10” diameter across top. A nice tight weave with geometric design that completely encompasses the sides of the basket. Inner and outer base is plain, with no design. This basket is in nearly pristine condition; no missing stitches at all along the base and rim. The Pimas, who live in southwestern Arizona, call themselves Akimel O`odham, which means "river people." They are closely related to the Tohono O’odham, or "desert people," who were formerly known as Papagos.
