Stock Certificate from the Pikes Peak Tunnel Mining Railway. Certificate number 391 issued in 1896 at New York to George A.Crofutt. Signed by president George H. Proctor and secretary Clarence (?). Printed by Unz & Co., 1 Bowling Green NY. Size 10.25" by 8.25" inches. Very nice. Not cancelled. Allegorical vignette. According to a large ad for the company in Truth, Volume 42 (1897), the company formed to develop a system of railroad tunnels in Cripple Creek, as well as develop mine interests in the area and use the water encountered for power generation and irrigation for Cripple Creek. The main tunnel would go through Pike's Peak from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek. The company would mine along this tunnel, as well as drain water for mines above it, and also process ores at the entrances to the tunnel.
