A rare example of America's First Gold Mining Scrip produced in Auraria Georgia in the early 1830s.This fully issued note was written to E.H. Blackman Nov. 8th, 1837 and signed by Bulfinch and Ripley. The endorsement "pay the bearer" by Blackman indicates the note was cashed. A counterstamp "J.B. Greae.Mob.Al" shows the note travelled some. While the overall condition of the note is fair, the vignettes are well preserved and artful. The Panic of 1837 brought about the downfall of many American banks, but mining company scrip was as good as gold. Included with purchase is a copy of "Gold! At Pigeon Roost: The Story of America's First Gold Mining Scrip," by Fred N. Holabird & Al Adams in 2010. -60308
