“with an Historical Sketch.” By B. T. Pierson. G. P. Scott & Co., Printers. List of doctors, dentists, and nurses. Index at back. Includes a sketch of the Young Ladies Seminary at Bethlehem. Founded in 1742 by Moravians, descendants of followers of John Amos Comenius, the 17th century Moravian bishop, it was the first boarding school for young women in the U.S. The seminary was created by Benigna, Countess von Zinzendorf, the daughter of Count Nikolaus Ludwig Zinzendorf, who was the benefactor of the fledgling Moravian community. (Is this a statement about Newark that the only sketch in the directory is from Pennsylvania?) Binding beginning to crumble. Front and back cover have small areas that have lost their color. Front cover beginning to become unhinged. Some hand-drawn information. Many advertisements have a pictorial to go with them. 160 pages. [Rarity: i]City: NewarkCounty: State: NJDate:
