Two interesting letters by the French diplomats, including: an LS by Pierre Louis Jean Casimir de Blacas, signed "Blacas," one page, 8 x 10, October 3, 1814, in part (translated): "From your invaluable letter which have shown, Madam, the fidelity and the devotion of Monsieur Baron de Flacklanden, you must not doubt that the King has in his heart to carry out his promises. As soon as His Majesty can give his attention to pensions, I shall place under his eyes your record and your entitlements"; and an LS by Jean-Guillaume, baron Hyde de Neuville, one page, 8 x 10, French Legation letterhead, in part: "I am informed…that you are the inventor of a…bayonet for which you obtained a patent from the American Government…if you be pleased to forward the bayonet to the French Counsel…I will take it with me & promise to recommend it to the attention of my Government." In overall very good to fine condition, with multiple edge tears, and paper loss along the left edge of the Neuville document.
