The lithograph in colors by the Belgian artist from 1998 shows an abstract composition of line formations and structured surfaces. The coloring is limited to harmonious-restrained black, gray and salmon pink. The sheet was created in Atelier Clot, Paris.

The lithograph in colors is signed lower right in pencil ‘Alechinsky’, lower left numbered and dated in pencil ‘12/90 1998’ and lower center titled in pencil ‘dimanche’. There is a slight crease in the upper right corner. The sheet is reversibly mounted in a mat at the reverse upper edge. The frame indicates slight signs of wear. The image measures 46.1 x 47 cm, the sheet 60 x 54 cm. The framed dimensions are 78.8 x 73.3 cm.

Pierre Alechinsky (b. 1927)

As a Russian-Jewish immigrant, Pierre Alechinsky grew up in Brussels, where he also studied book illustration and typography at the School of Architecture and Applied Arts. In 1949, he became a member of the artist group CoBrA. Here he was mainly responsible for the production of the magazine CoBrA. In 1951, he moved to Paris, where he learned etching by S.W. Hayter. Three years later, he met Walasse Ting and through him his great interest in Chinese painting techniques was awakened. In 1955, he even produced a movie in Japan about the traditional calligraphy of the country. He took part in two documentas and represented Brussels at the Venice Biennale in 1972. He is a Knight of the Legion of Honor of France and an honorary doctorate of the University of Brussels. (fea)
