Picture Stories from the Bible #1 Gaines File pedigree
Picture Stories from the Bible #1 Gaines File pedigree (DC, 1944) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white pages. This ""graphic novel"" version of the Old Testament was the brainchild of Max Gaines, and was found among the file copies stashed away by Max's son, EC publisher William Gaines. Although listed on the CGC header as a 1942 edition, this is really a 1944 reprint from Educational Comics with a DC cover logo; the back cover shows an order form (with a coupon addressed to M. C. Gaines, Publisher) for all four Old Testament books (you can see the ""Fall 1943"" date on the cover of the fourth volume). At any rate, this is still a very beautiful and historic item. Although CGC recognizes this as a Gaines File copy, no certificate accompanies this book. Overstreet 2005 NM- 9.2 value for 1942 edition = $270; NM- value for 1944 edition = $200. CGC census 8/05: 2 in 9.4, 1 higher.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids.
