Elegant and delightful hand painted garden and riverside scene by artist Franz Vobornik, one of Pickard's artists working from 1903-1925, is lavishly framed in extravagant burnished gold.

The impressionistic scene is reminiscent of a Monet watercolor with lush Rose and Rose Hedges in the forefront on the side panels. The artist completes the scenic panel on front and back with a Riverside rendering surrounded with soft and flowing trees in the far distance, water birds flying overhead amongst blurred greenery, giving his work dimension. This is my interpretation, however one may perceive the River scene not to be the "Rhine", complete with a Barge-like vessel meandering down the river, but a Pasture with manicured rows of grain and a Bonfire. Narrow concentric bands highlight and emphasize the gold borders for added eye-appeal.

Mark is black concentric circles on gold maple leaf, (Reed Mark 7, used 1912-1918) narrowing down the dateline to 1918. Excellent condition, no chips or cracks in china, only a slight rub to gold on right upper side of handle. Three superficial gold paint pops on the rim. Gold has a wonderful hand rubbed patina that comes only with age.

This is an exquisite example of hand painted china from early Pickard to add to your collection.

Piece measures 3.25 inches high by 4.25 inches long to handle's edge.
