This is the most unique chair that we found at a local auction in a once affluent neighborhood in the Burg. The base is similar to Louis XVI style piano stools however there is a mechanical apparatus that connects the base to the chair. The mechanical apparatus may be Hunzinger however we cannot find any markings. There is an arch back that resembles a music stand. There are two adjustments to the chair - one on the seat and the other behind the back. There are reeds straight up and down on the back and one has been glued and a second is fragile. The seat swivels all the way around in a complete 360 degree rotation. The upholstery is a green velvet and even the two uprights are upholstered in the velvet. This was probably a piano or organ stool - possibly a chair in a symphony orchestra or for a string quartet. We wish we could give you more details on the maker and date - it seems to date to sometime in the 1800s but that is as much information as we have on this great chair. It stands about 35 inches tall as found and possibly would adjust upward by using the adjustments and mechanisms.
