Includes: Sept. 13, 1963 correspondence from the office of Sen. Frank J. Lausche to J. Oliver Amos regarding the nomination of Margo Russell to the United States assay Commission, with follow-up correspondence dated Sept. 17 and 18; a series of 13 large (8 by 10 inch) black and white photographs of prominent numismatists associated with the annual assay, including Russell, Eva Adams, R.S. Yeoman, Dorothy Gershenson, Mitchell Sura and others; smaller photographs depicting the 1964 Assay Commission medal and Margo Russell inspecting the assaying equipment; three editions of the Old Timer Assay Commissioners Society's guidebook, dated 1978, 1983 and 1993; correspondence between Arthur & Prue Fitts and Margo Russell dated 2007-09 regarding the Commission and the Society. Materials, including photos, generally fine. Includes some well-executed photographs, most with Philadelphia Inquirer or Coin World stamps on the back. The Old Timer assay Commissioners Society has to rank as one of the most exclusive numismatic organizations, and their publications as such are rarely encountered.
