unmounted image 3" x 4.5". Heckle, Robert "Texas Bob". Rymes of the Frontier, Vol. II, 1929, Arizona Printers. 16mo, 16pp and printed paper wraps.

Robert "Texas Bob" Heckle was born in Alabama in 1847. While information is sketchy, Bob appears to have lost his father in 1856 and shortly thereafter begun working for Sam Allen. He apparently went north to Utah some years later and married Anna Carpenter Helm of that state. They moved to Arizona where they settled for most of their lives, and raised about a dozen children. Bob always seemed to be a cowboy, but held a number of other related positions, one being a freighter. He became one of that breed of "cowboy poets," popular just after the turn of the century, as the West was becoming "civilized."
