This is a 1979 reproduction postcard featuring a 1930 photo by photographer Albert Arthur Allen titled Nude, (Number 6). **MORE postcards from 1950s to 1990s (risque, nude, art sci-fi, oddities) in this and future auctions. From the estate of a big collector who traveled the world and had some very scarce paper items. Many postcards from small independent underground printers in Germany, Holland, France, UK, etc. SIZE: Approx. 6 3/4" x 5 1/2". American photographer Albert Arthur Allen (1886-1962) moved to California at the age of 21 and opened the Allen Art Studio in Oakland. Around 1920 he renamed his studio The Allen Institute of Fine and Applied Art, began teaching photography, and started publishing thematic portfolios of nudes, for educational use only. Allen had studied science, including physiology, chemistry, and mechanical engineering; perhaps this explains why he preferred to approach the female body from more of an anatomic perspective rather than a creative one. The 1920s was a time when the United States was open to artistic exploration; in Allen's photographs of flapper women, they wore their hair in bobs and wore high heels - but not much else. Unbeknownst to him, Allen had taken on the stigmatized world of nudity and politics in art.

A 20% restocking fee also applies to merchandise rejected by the buyer due to reasons other than misrepresentation by All Things Estate Auctions. All sales are final. No lots are sold on approval. Placing a bid is a legally binding obligation. There are no returns or exchanges.
