The fair was the work of M. H. de Young who sought to revitalize California’s depressed economy after the Panic of 1893. Hoping to follow the model of Chicago’s Columbian Exposition, de Young planned what would be the first fair of its kind in California. Taking over 200 acres of Golden Gate Park, it was centered in what is now the park’s Music Concourse, the fair featured the Japanese Tea Garden (which still draws visitors) and re-enactments of events from the state`s past. Here we have an 8" X 10" sepia toned photo of a staged hold up at the fair. The photo was taken by Taber Photography at 121 Post St. San Francisco. The picture in in very good condition. -60109
