Phokis. Federal coinage struck at Delphi. Triobol, 457 - 446 BC. AR 2.74 g., 2¢. Frontal triangular bull’s head, the hair in ringlets, in field below to l., countermark owl standing facing ¾ l., wings closed. Rev. Head of Artemis r. in incuse square, her hair in a bun, F-O-K-[I] starting from top r., clockwise, the K backwards. Williams - (O.- / R.112). Williams post 187. Same reverse die as lot 234 below. Has been cleaned and now beginning to tone. A pleasing coin. Very fine. Acquired from Seaby’s, October 1984 and from an old English collection.
