[Philology] - MARESIUS, Rolandus - Epistolarum philologicarum liber primus. Paris, Henri Le Gras, 1650, 12mo, contemp. vellum, [16]-163-[1] pp. (a few minor stains). Good copy. € 120/200 1st edition (2nd: 1655) of a collection of undated letters on philological subjects by the French humanist Maresius (1594-1653). The book is dedicated to J.Bapt.Am. Richelieu, abbé de St.Ouen and contains letters to Gilles Ménage (7), Adrien Valois (5) and his brother Jean (6), as well as to a.o. Claude Sarrau, Guy Patin, Nicolaus Heinsius, etc. There is 1 verse letter (no. 4), but other letters often include Latin poems (e.g. on the paintings in the Richelieu palace). Woodcut ornament on title, nice small woodcut headpieces and initials. Ex-libris of M. Delasize. Collector's stamp A. Boulangé on title. Ref. BN Paris (1). Not in BL London, NUC.
