Featured in this lot is this lithograph called "An Unexpected Meeting" by Philip R. Goodwin born in 1881 and died in 1935. The artwork features a wonderfully and professionally crafted lithograph construction that shows two men one carrying a box of supplies and the other brandishing a "WINCHESTER" rifle at a bear that just came out of their cabin. The lithograph is marked at the bottom as follows: An Unexpected Meeting - Philip R. Goodwin. Philip R. Goodwin (September 16, 1881 – December 14, 1935) was an American painter and illustrator who specialized in depictions of wildlife, the outdoors, fishing, hunting and the Old American West. He provided illustrations for numerous books and magazines, as well as for commercial items, such as posters, advertisements and calendars. He is perhaps best known for illustrating Jack London's The Call of the Wild and for providing the cover art for many issues of Outdoor Recreation / Outdoor Life Magazine during the 1920s and early 1930s. He is also the artist who designed the Horse & Rider Trademark of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company.


The condition of this Philip Goodwin lithograph is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage and shows a well preserved overall condition. The measurements of this lithograph is 14 7/8" x 18 1/8" and the visible artwork measures 10 1/2" x 13 1/2". The collective weight of this lithograph is 3lbs.
