Dick (1928-1982) completed a staggering number of brilliant science-fiction works, including 121 short stories and dozens of novels. Eight of his stories have been adapted for the screen by such luminaries as Ridley Scott (<I>Blade Runner</B></I>, from <I>Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?</B></I>) and Steven Spielberg (<I>Minority Report</B></I>). <I>A Scanner Darkly</B></I> (which was adapted for a 2006 rotoscope animation film by Richard Linklater) deals with drugs in a futuristic society, circa 1986.
