4th Earl of Stanhope (1781–1855), was an English aristocrat, chiefly remembered for his role in the Kaspar Hauser case during the 1830s. Third-person ALS, one page, 7.25 x 9, December 13, 1823. In part: “Earl Stanhope requests that Mr. Bohte will inform him whether the Revd. Dr. Steinkopf is now in London, as Earl Stanhope has not yet received an Answer to the letter which he sent some days ago to the care of Mr. Bohte, & also wishes to know the address of the Doctor.” Intersecting folds, scattered toning, heavier to edges, pencil notations to bottom and top, repaired tear to right edge, and a few small pinholes along a horizontal fold, otherwise very good condition.
