Union general (1831–1888) whose cavalry command blocked Lee’s escape at Appomattox. ALS signed “P. H. Sheridan,” one page both sides on a light blue gridded sheet, 5 x 8, Florence, January 18, 1871. Letter to “Mr. Powers.” In part: “I have forgotten whether it was Thursday or Friday I was to give you the first sitting, & write to say that I can come tomorrow if it is convenient & agreeable to you. I can get to your studio at about 11 o’clock A. M.” Intersecting folds (one vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature), light scattered creases, a small cut to the upper left, and some show-through from writing on opposing sides, otherwise fine condition.
