Philip H. Sheridan ALS to Sherman Philip H. Sheridan Autograph Letter Signed To William T. Sherman
Philip H. Sheridan Autograph Letter Signed To William T. Sherman Three pages, 5" x 6.5", Chicago, June 3, 1881. He signs himself "P.H. Sheridan." The letter reads, "My dear general Sherman: The saddle did not belong to anyone & I am unable to say if any person ever rode on it. Tompkins the chief Q. master here found it at Leavenworth or some place down in the Dept. of Missouri. It cost nothing therefore there is nothing to pay. He gave it to me, I gave it to you, & I am glad you gave it to Ben Holliday." Sheridan was a decorated and battle-proven general for the Union during the Civil War. This letter with the association between two legendary generals makes this piece very desirable.
The letter is in very fine condition; usual folds are present; slight soiling on edges; the letter has been mounted to a folder. Accompanying this letter is an engraving of Sheridan, perfect for display. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
