American lawyer and politician from New Jersey (1739–1809) who, as a brigadier general of the New Jersey militia, was one of the most effective militia officers of the American Revolutionary War. He also served as a Continental Congressman from Delaware and a United States Senator from New Jersey. ADS, one page, 5.5 x 6.75, January 7, 1807. Dickinson lengthily endorses the reverse of a US Loan Office certificate for $1000, in part: "For value received I do hereby assign & transfer the amount of the within debt to Thomas McEwen & Co. of Philad'a and request that it may be passed to their credit on the Books of the Com'r of Loans in Pennsylvania." In fine condition, with trimmed edges.
