Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike (Pennsylvania) A 1795 certificate for one share signed by Willia
Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike (Pennsylvania) A 1795 certificate for one share signed by William Bingham as President and Tench Francis as Secretary. There is an exceptionally well done vignette of a covered wagon and four horses approaching a toll gate. The company was chartered in 1792 and constructed 62 miles of road between Philadelphia and Lancaster. Bingham was a close friend of George Washington and one of the most influential businessmen of the period. He founded the first bank in the young nation, the Bank of North America. He was also one of the country's first millionaires. This is commonly viewed as the earliest vignetted American stock certificate to appear on the market. A truly historic financial item worthy of a generous bid. Extremely Fine. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
