1852 - Unknown date of incorporation. Cert. # 1792, issued to Theodore Walter on 16 September 1852 for 110 shares at $5 per. Signed by Pearson Serrill, president, and L. Alter, secretary. Center vignette of miners working a rock face on a hillside, with log cabin and pine trees in the background. A small vignette at bottom of a dog guarding a safe. Black Greek-design border on cream colored paper. Uncancelled. Printer: E. Grattan, at Third and Walnuts Sts., (Philadelphia). 8" x 9.5.” Trimmed tight at left. At one time John C. Fremont was president of this company. In 1851, he wrote a letter to the company stating that he was granting them a large tract of valuable property on the Mariposa Estate [Ref: Expeditions of J. C.
