Philadelphia Derringer, barrel hand engraved in block letters “Manud. for J. B. Gilmore, Shreveport LA”. The derringer is spuriously marked “Derringer, Philadela” on breech and lock in a closely similar stamp to Henry Deringer’s marking. The left side of the breech is “P” proofed and the barrel shows 7-groove rifling. The pistol is German silver mounted with pineapple finial, the trigger guard is engraved, the other inlays are plain. The escutcheon around lock screw shows a point at the bottom indicating manufacture by other than Henry Deringer and probably made by Slotter. The derringer measures approx. 6” overall with 2-1/4” barrel, of approx. .40 caliber. The metal surfaces are in good condition showing light to moderate erosion and surface pitting, and the hammer shows a crack almost halfway through. The engraving is fairly sharp, the wood is good with good checkering, and there is one inlay German silver inlay missing from the butt. Est: $1,250 - $1,500
