ALS in German, signed “Peter,” one page, 6.25 x 7.5, personal letterhead, no date but postmarked May 1, 1963. Letter to “children,” the esteemed husband-and-wife piano duo of Vronsky and Babin, in full (translated): “The old master cordially thanks you for the beautiful music—masterfully performed, but why no pure German music? Again and again Rachmaninoff or Lutoslawski—never Reger or Pfitzner!!!! I regret it very much, such magic performers and just a little bit of Slavic music!!!!!!! Oh, woe to us all!!!!!!” Ustinov has added a wonderful ink self-portrait sketch to the main body of the letter. In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
