Cabinet card photo of Civil War General Peter Joseph Osterhaus. Prussian by birth, Osterhaus was involved in significant Civil War battles, including Lookout Mountain and Atlanta as well as Sherman's March to the Sea. After the war, he continued to serve the U.S. as a diplomat. Before his death in 1917, he was living in Duisburg, Germany, where this 4'' x 6'' photo was taken by R. Gerling. It is mounted to a 4'' x 6.25'' card. Minor creasing, else near fine condition.
