ALS signed “Pete with a small clipped photo affixed to lower right,” three pages, lightly-lined, 5.75 x 8, March 29, 1963. Letter to “Linda,” sent from the Star Club in Germany. In part: “Over here the lads have settled down O.K. and they are going down well with the German audiences. They found the hours a bit tough at first but now they have settled down a bit more, and things are a little easier for them…The news of the week is that last week in our hotel a woman was raped to death in her room and the fellow beat it quick—the place was crawling with coppers and doctors and it was thought that we would all be questioned by the police, however nothing happened…Tomorrow, Saturday we’ve got a big day ahead of us, because the club’s open for fourteen hours non-stop and we’ve got to play four hour spots during that time…it’s going to be murder I think.” On the final page, Best prints his name and mailing address. In fine condition, with central horizontal and vertical folds. Accompanied by the original air mail envelope. Best had been fired from the Beatles by Brian Epstein on August 16, 1962, after serving as the drummer for a little over two years. Shortly after, Epstein secretly arranged for Best to join Lee Curtis & the All Stars, which then broke off from Curtis to become Pete Best & the All Stars.
