Peru Weaving ''Cubos (Cubes)'' by Eddie Sulca. Measures 46'' x 59'' without fringe and has woven signature on lower right corner. Eddie Sulca is Peru's preeminent weaver of the old Wari weavers' technique and effect. While many try to duplicate his three-dimensional art, none succeed. Sulca's grandfather learned the Wari technique from the last of them, in 1923. This weaving represents the stronghold, fortress, citadel, or religious center of the Inca, such as Sacsayhuaman or Machu Picchu. The stones (cubes) represent the Incaic calendar and the ideograms are symbols that represent the life of the Inca. Stylized cats (felines) are represented. Using finely woven Peruvian sheep's wool (95%) and long staple cotton (5%), Sulca dyes the fiber with hand gathered natural leaves, berries, branches, roots and insects which produce colors unachievable by other dyes. The weave is very tight - approximately 160 threads per inch or more and the threads are very fine; never coarse or fuzzy. The weavings can be washed in cold water. This is an aboslutely stunning and unique art piece anyone would be proud to hang on their wall.
