<td width="100%">
An unglazed earthenware mold-formed Persian water ewer decorated with medallions of what look to be either paired birds, or human faces (or both). Ewer is in very good condition, with only a few old indigenous restorations around the rim. The interior of the neck shows the clay baffle to keep flies off of the water. This piece was apparently never buried, and would seem to have been in the possession of one family or another since its manufacture sometime during the 12th Century! The function of the unglazed clay would have allowed water moisture to weep through to the surface, and the subsequent evaporative process in the dry desert climate of Iran would have cooled down the water for drinking purposes. This is an excellent medieval work of art. Height: 7 inches (18cm), Circumference: 19 inches (48.5 cm)
