Period copy of Brown Bess musket marked Tower with 1777 date on rear of lock plate, British-type crown with G.R. marking, approximately 42-1/2” barrel, 58” overall, bright polish metal finish, French-type trigger guard with finger serrations,large rear sight mounted at tang, scooped cheek piece — also in the French and Belgian style — with small D star and S proof marks on right side of breech, which appear French or Belgian, also. There is a GB marking behind the frizzen. Themetal surfaces are very good+ to near fine with just some oil staining, minor pitting and erosion. The stocks are very good+ to near fine and are still their light original color with just some minor storage marks, scratches, etc. The bands are secured by springs. An original ‘to the period’ ramrod is included. The buttplate is engraved 2400. A very interesting early 19th century musket and the Brown Bess was legendary throughout the world.
