An Important almost life size period first French Empire patinated bronze bust of Napoleon by Pierre-Francois Feuchère(1737-1823). French Empire, circa: 1810. Measuring: 13.5" high.

The present model of the bronze bust was first created in 1799 by the Emperor?s favorite sculptor, Antoine Denis Chaudet(1769-1821), creator of the statue of Bonaparte that was cast from captured cannon and crowned the column on the Place Vendome in Paris. Versions of this official bust--Napoleon's favorite--were carved in marble at Carrara, Italy and done in bronze in France commissioned by Napoleon from only 1807-1812. while numerous busts were ordered by Napoleon during this time to place in public institutions. Most surviving first Period examples(1807-1812) such as the present bust can now only be found in Museum collections

Lost wax method of bronze casting. Hand chasing and chiseling of the surface. Original patina present and intact. Inscription on front hand chiseled after casting. Signature of " Feuchère " hand chiseled by him and numbered with inventory " No 3" making this one of the earliest and first bronze busts produced by him.
