This is a period 19th century Eagle weathervane that just came out of an old Weston estate and probably dates to mid 1860s. Attributed to A.L. Jewell of Waltham, Mass. Jewell was active from 1852-1867 and did some of the finest Weathervanes in the United States, and is very highly collected by Individuals and museums. The weathervane measures 19 1/2 inches in length, from wing to wing it measures 12 1/4 inches, and is 14 inches in height (without the base) and 17 1/4 inches with the base.

<P>
The eagle is perched a top a round ball with wings spread open as she is about to take flight. The eagle head is Zinc. We took many images to give you a good idea of age, condition and the quality of the weathervane. It has traces of the original gilding. Conditionally; the hollow body has a few dings (typical for the age). One wing tip is slightly torn, the other wing tip is missing.
We have not seen this particular form of eagle in antique Weathervanes and believe it is probably rarer then most and would make an envious addition to any fine collection. ****NOTE: Email for additional images.
