<B>PERIDOT CRYSTAL</B></I><BR> <I>Sapat Valley, Mansehra, NWFP, Pakistan</B></I><BR>As the birthstone for August, peridot is virtually ubiquitous in jewelry.<BR>On the other hand, it is very rare to see a natural, uncut crystal available. <BR>Partly; due to lack of large crystals to begin with and partly due to the Oriental view that such crystals are merely the raw materials to make something with. In any event; uncut specimens as large as this one are rarely encountered. The faces and luster are consistent with the 'slightly melted' or frosted look normal for this material. There are gemmy areas that somehow escaped being cut into beads and the like. Other areas are slightly included. This single large crystal measures 2 ½ inches high by 1 ½ inches wide by 1 ¼ inches thick.
