Well-regarded Australian-born pianist, conductor, and composer (1882–1961) best known for his folk settings and colorfully experimental works. ALS, one page, 8.5 x 11, January 9, 1960. To his friend, Mr. Heinsheimer. In part: “We are here for a medical & surgical check-up of my condition & will be here 2 weeks longer. Some of the treatments and examinations are horribly painful, so I will be glad when they are over. You will see by the enclosed that we did the Liszt Hungarian Fantasy (arranged for band by me) & the Children’s March at Rivers Falls, Wisconsin & that Newton, New Jersey is doing Lincolnshire Posy & wants to do Children’s March…We shall…work in White Plains early in February. There was a band convention here (during our stay here) at which the Rochester, Minn. band played Ye Banks and Braes & The University of Minnesota band played Lincolnshire Posy. But I was not well enough to be present. I shall look forward to see you early in February & to asking you a few questions…Please do not trouble to answer this–as I said, I am hoping to see you in February.” In fine condition, with scattered surface creasing and wrinkling, and the end of the signature a shade light.
