English writer (1792–1822) who takes a place among the most original poetic voices of his day and one of the most influential literary figures of the Romantic era. His much-anthologized work includes such classics as “Ozymandias” and “Prometheus Unbound.” Manuscript personal check, 7.25 x 3, filled out and signed by Shelley, payable to Mr. Smith or bearer for £4.8.0, November 23, 1817. Areas of mild soiling, small hole from ink erosion at bottom edge (repaired from reverse and not affecting any writing), and the usual heavy ink cancellations to first and middle names of signature (something virtually all Shelley checks exhibit), otherwise fine condition. “Shelley” is dark and distinct and the check presents a clean appearance overall. Shelley wrote his most famous work, “Ozymandias,” in December 1817; it was first published in January 1818. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
