Percussion oddity pistol by Delvigne & Le Page. These pistols have been nicknamed “Mouse Pistols” by oddity and derringer collectors. They show an animal figure around the barrel and at the hammer and have a cast hardrubber or gutta percha body showing beast and scrolls. The pistols are cocked by pushing back a lever located directly beneath the barrel which exposes the nipple and the mouse’s tail fires the gun. A simple loading rod is in a compartment in the butt. The pistol shows a 3-1/4” barrel and is approx. 4-1/2” overall and about 8mm or .32 caliber rifled bore. The barrel shows 90-95% bright blue finish with some spots at the edges and some minor erosion just starting. The top flat of the barrel is nicely engraved “ENV” and “Delvigne”. The steel parts are nicely chiseled to show the form of the mouse. The hammer shows original and gold gilt. The body of the pistol which is of Gutta Percha is in fine condition, just opening slightly and showing beginning age. A very desirable oddity pistol which is seldom encountered. Est: $3,000 - $6,000
